Laboratory for Cellular Neuropsychiatry (CNP)

at Philipps-University Marburg

RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder affecting up to 10 million people worldwide. Currently, there is no cure and no effective way to slow or stop disease progression.

Scientists at the CNP lab investigate the cellular mechanisms leading to the selective loss of certain vulnerable neuronal populations in Parkinson’s disease. By employing a combination of genetic, optical, electrophysiological, and electron microscopy tools we aim to unravel how aggregation of the small protein α-synuclein drives neurodegeneration at single cell level. To translate our findings into new treatment strategies we collaborate with researchers from universities and industry partners around the world.

By including young enthusiastic people in our multinational team, we contribute to the education and training of the next generation of scientists. No matter if you are a student, early postdoc, or senior scientist, if you are willing to devote your time to translational research on international level, email us at geibl@staff.uni-marburg.de
